La bataille de Madagascar

L'une de mes lecture de cet été aura été la livre de Russel Phillips sur la bataille de Madagascar qui opposa des Français de Vichy à une force d'invasion Britannique au printemps 1942. L'objectif est alors d’empêcher la Marine Impériale Japonaise d'obtenir une base dans l'Océan Indien. La disproportion des forces et de qualité du matériel ne laissent pas d'incertitude sur la fin mais cette conquête va s'avérer plus longue que prévue.

Le livre est en format poche avec une couverture rigide. Il est bien écrit et facile à comprendre. Ses défauts résident dans l'iconographie aux photos minuscules ou petites et aux cartes pas toujours très claires ( sans légende). Le bilan final de cette lecture reste globalement positif sur un sujet rarement rencontré.

One of my reading for this summer will have been the book by Russel Phillips on the battle of Madagascar which opposed the French from Vichy to a British invading force in the spring of 1942. The objective was then to prevent the Imperial Japanese Navy. to obtain a base in the Indian Ocean. The disproportion of forces and quality of the materials leaves no uncertainty about the end but this conquest will prove to be longer than expected.  

The book is in paperback format with a hard cover. It is well written and easy to understand. Its flaws lie in the iconography with tiny or small photos and not always very clear maps (without legend). The final results of this reading remain generally positive on a subject rarely encountered.
